High Speed Line – Florence (Italy)
Supply and installation of an automatic monitoring system and real time of tracks for the project “High Speed Line – Florence Junction – Lot 1”.
Infrastructure
Our instruments and systems are used for geotechnical and structural monitoring of tunnels and all underground works in general.
We have examples of Pizzi Instrumentation systems monitoring tunnel entrances, excavation areas, already constructed galleries and buildings surrounding excavation areas.
In such monitoring the reliability of the instrumentation is of fundamental importance in addition to the use of automatic acquisition systems which guarantee remote control 24/7.
The instrumentation proposed by Pizzi Instruments is also applied in the monitoring of bridges, viaducts, and road embankments, with instruments suitable for the purpose such as measuring devices and data acquisition systems, and are of paramount importance in ensuring the safety and durability of infrastructure subjected to various stresses, such as traffic weight, weathering, vibrations, and ground movements. These factors can cause progressive structural damage, which if not detected and addressed in a timely manner, can compromise the stability and functionality of the structure.
The adoption of advanced technologies in bridge monitoring enables real-time data, facilitating early diagnosis of potential problems and immediate decision-making for maintenance and repair. Importantly, bridge monitoring should be an ongoing process throughout the entire service life of the infrastructure.
Buildings and structures may be subject to stress and tension due to various causes.
The monitoring of the status of a building, after the completion of work which could compromise its stability, and the control of phenomena and evidence such as cracks and subsidence, which can occur for various reasons, are of primary importance.
Pizzi Instruments has developed instruments and systems for the control and monitoring of buildings (Structural Health Monitoring – SHM), offering remote control in real time solutions with low visual impact, 24/7.

The project involved the installation of 25 mini strain gauge bars with vibrating wire, aimed at carrying out a load test on the pilot pole, as part of the construction works of the new commercial dock, at the port of Catania. it occurred along via Peruzzi, near a road embankment, where a significant collapse of a wall occurred with the consequent sliding of a large amount of land into the valley below.
On 27/02/2016 there were calamitous atmospheric events, caused by persistent and very intense downpours, which caused considerable damage to the entire road heritage of the Municipality of Siena. The most serious occurred along via Peruzzi, near a road embankment, where a significant collapse of a wall occurred with the consequent sliding of a large amount of land into the valley below.
In March 2021 Pizzi Instruments won the tender called by the Arsenale of the Navy of Taranto for the supply of a Real Time inclinometer system for the measurement of the skidding of the Naval Units.
For several years, the Swiss company GeoSIG Ltd undertakes with the Department of Civil Protection – Seismic Structural Observatory – a series of contracts for the support of the ordinary and extraordinary management of the monitoring systems of the Seismic Structural Observatory.
