Water Level Meter – Dipmeter

Download Manual

Edit

The Water Level Meter – Dipmeter is used for the measurement of water levels in wells or in piezometric pipes.

The system includes :

  • An electric probe provided with two contacts in conductive material insulated by a special drip edge.
  • An additional head for the weighting of the probe.
  • An inextensible cable with flat or round shape (flat with millimeter or centimeter graduation, according to model).

The model with flat cable has a maximum external diameter of 12 mm and can be used with all piezometric pipes normally in use.

A smaller diameter head (10 mm) can only be supplied with the circular cable model.
In special cases, it is possible to mount an additional series of weights on the same cable as the probe, in addition to those normally supplied.

We currently produce 3 series of water level meters – each can be provided with different cable lengths:

  • Water Level Meter with flat cable and graduations at 1 millimeter intervals
  • Water Level Meter with round cable and graduations at 1 centimeter intervals
  • Water Level Meter with circular cable and temperature sensor

The Water Level Meter is an instrument that is always reliable over time and does not require particular maintenance, except for the replacement of low batteries. The model with a temperature sensor has two 9V batteries while other models have one 9V battery.

Water Level Meter Applications

The water level meter is used to measure groundwater levels in wells, open pipe or Casagrande piezometers.
The instrument is mainly used in:

  • Dams
  • Galleries
  • Landslides
  • Wells
  • Boreholes
  • Diaphragms
  • Roadworks
  • Hydrological, geotechnical and structural monitoring
  • Various

Water Level Meter Features and Benefits

  • Immediate measurements
  • Any atmospheric conditions
  • Easy to use
  • Low cost
  • Rugged and robust design

Water Level Meter Measuring Principle

The principle is simple; an electric cable with two conductors is lowered into a well or borehole until it enters into contact with the water surface to be measured.
On the head is the probe which acts as a weighting body for the cable and the element that touches the water. Once contact has occurred, the water short circuits the two final pins of the probe.
This short circuit is detected by an acoustic device with suitable battery located at the other end of the cable, housed in the cable reel.
The connection cable is inextensible and graduated in centimeters (or in millimeters for the model with flat cable tape).
When the probe head enters into contact with the water, an acoustic signal warns the operator and at that moment, it is possible to detect by direct reading of the cable, the depth at which contact occurred, determining the depth of the water surface and thus its level.
