Float Type Level Meter

The float level meter is mainly used for measuring the water level in channels, for the collection of leaks, in earthfill, concrete and RCC dams. A float of suitable shape and size follows the variations in level upstream of a weir; a LVDT extensometer is connected to the float and automatically measures its vertical movement, that is the variation of level.

Level meters are available with ranges of 100mm, 200mm, 300mm; other ranges customizable on request.

Applications

Level measurement in open channels is widely used and applied in environmental and geotechnical fields. In particular, measurement of the water level in earth or concrete dams, it is one of the most important indicators of the health of the structure.
Other typical applications for this instrument are level measurement in:
– dams
– leak collection channels
– tanks
– others

Features and Benefits

– High resolution and sensitivity
– High speed measurement
– Measurement in real time
– Not sensitive to atmospheric disturbances
– Easy to use
– Long life of the system
– Wide variety of measurement ranges
– Automatic measurement possible

Measuring Principle

In a channel the weir causes a variation of the water level upstream which is directly proportional to the variation of flow rate.
The measurement of the level can be performed with different systems; we propose the float type level meter. The system consists of linear extensometer, LVDT type, connected with a float; each movement of the float, free to move with the water level, is detected by the sensor that measures the extent.
The system is composed of:
• weir with overflow section (triangular, rectangular or
other)
•LVDT linear transducer (or other on request)
•Float
•Support for fitting the device
