G.E.R.D.P. (Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam Project) Ethiopia : supply and commissioning of monitoring instrumentation

The project is situated at about 500 km north west of the Addis Abeba capital in the region of the Benishangul – Gumaz (Ethiopia), along the Blue Nile River.

At the end of the works, the Grand Ethiopian Dam Renaissance Project will be the largest dam in Africa: 1.800 m long, 155 m high and with an overall volume of 74.000 million m³.

The project foresees the construction of a main dam in Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC), with 2 Hydroelectric Power Plants installed at the foot of the dam.

The project is completed by a 15,000 m3/s capacity concrete spillway and a rockfill saddle dam 5 km long and 50 m high, both located on the left bank.

Pizzi Instruments is currently providing for the supply and installation of monitoring equipment.

The installed instrumentation was specially designed by Pizzi Instruments thanks to the long experience in geotechnical and structural monitoring, innovative solutions ensure reliable and long-lasting functionality over time.

In agreement with the Customer, Pizzi Instruments has recently been asked to carry out an inspection directly in the dam, in order to estimate the needed monitoring equipment necessary to complete the works.
